How to Weave
How is it Done?
Weaving is done by using some type of wooden device to hold a series of strings each of equal length that are parallel with one another which is known as the warp. Then a seperate series of string coming from the perpendicular direction, known as the weft, are run through this series of loom in a over-under type pattern so that on the top of the loom a single pattern is left. I want to do this with my own initials so I have created a grid that shows how I do it.
I made a 18 by 6 row and in each of the highlighted sections of the column I would go over with the material one of the six rows. So you can see for the first section I went under 1, over 8, under one, then finally over 8 again to make the first line of my initials. I then copied this technique matching each over with the highlighted blue boxes from the diagram on the page. I then took this to reality by cutting up paper and copying the grid with paper by cutting the grid in slits and sliding the paper over and under to match the pattern.
